Hilary Samson-Barry- HonDSc, MBA, BAHons
Hilary is an individual and group coach working extensively with chief executives, directors, boards, clinicians, commissioning teams and policy leads across health and social care, local authorities, housing, police and central government. Hilary also works with a number of organisations in the voluntary sector on a paid and pro-bono basis. She is currently leading a volunteer business mentoring programme for a federated national charity, which has mentored over 100 CEOs over the last 3 years; is a Trustee of Bipolar UK, an independent advisor to Mind and supports a number of hospice CEOs and directors. For 6 years, Hilary was a Trustee and Chair of Audit Committee at Scope, the national disability charity. She has also been a secondary school governor and an active member of church and community initiatives. Hilary combines strong innovative thinking, drive and passion, with a challenge and compassion and a strong intellect.
Over 25 years in public sector she has worked at director level in NHS and in Department of Health, latterly as Director of Partnerships for Children, Families and Maternity. In the Greater London Authority, she set up the health functions for the first Mayor and the London Health Commission - a public, private, voluntary sector partnership committed to improving health and tackling inequalities across London. As a director of the Women and Equality Unit in Cabinet Office and Department of Trade & Industry she introduced the first cross government target on gender equality and initiated and ran innovative, successful women’s pay and productivity programmes in partnership with private sector leaders and a range of academics, including a FTSE 100 women’s mentoring programme.
Hilary also worked in the private sector as a general management consultant with a leading international professional services firm working extensively in Europe and North America, consulting to FTSE and Fortune 100 companies on strategy and organisation effectiveness.
Hilary is an accredited leadership coach with both the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations and Time to Think Thinking Environment. She is also qualified in Myers Briggs personality type assessment Step I & II, a practitioner in systemic constellations, NLP, mindfulness, is a Mytho Self facilitator and accredited Political Savvy trainer. Hilary has degrees in Economics and Geography from University of Exeter, an MBA from University of Cranfield and an Honorary Doctorate from University of Greenwich. She attended the Leicester Group Relations Conference in 2014. She has regular supervision and actively pursues continuous professional and personal development.
